Live music and shows near Surfers Paradise

Four venues cover most of the live music and stage shows within a short tram or walk of Viscount: The Star's Jupiters Theatre, HOTA's arts precinct, Miami Marketta's free night market and GCCEC's big-ticket concerts, plus Den Devine for a nightly gig without a booking.

Most of the Gold Coast’s live music and theatre runs through a small handful of permanent venues, not one-off pop-ups, and four of them sit inside easy tram or walking range of Viscount: The Star Gold Coast for touring concerts and theatre, HOTA for arts programming, Miami Marketta for free live music, and the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre for the biggest shows. Add Den Devine in Broadbeach for a nightly gig without a ticket.

The Star Gold Coast and Jupiters Theatre

The Star sits on Broadbeach Island, the casino and entertainment complex most visitors already recognise from the skyline. Its in-house stage, Jupiters Theatre, is one of the region’s larger indoor venues and runs touring concerts, comedy and theatre productions year-round. What’s actually booked changes constantly, so check The Star’s own live-concerts listing rather than expecting a fixed lineup; the venue itself, not any single show, is the reason to keep it on the list. It’s reachable by G:link tram from Florida Gardens station, 500 m from the door, riding the same corridor north that serves Surfers Paradise.

HOTA, Home of the Arts

HOTA, at 135 Bundall Road, Surfers Paradise, is the broader arts precinct: a theatre, a gallery, a cinema and an outdoor stage set beside Evandale Lake with the Surfers Paradise skyline behind it. Programming spans live music, theatre, dance, comedy, opera, children’s shows and film, so it’s worth a look regardless of what kind of night out you’re after. HOTA also runs a Sunday farmers and artisan market at the same address, 6am to 11.30am, a good pairing with an evening show or a slow wander through the gallery beforehand. It sits on the same tram corridor as The Star, a short ride from Florida Gardens.

Miami Marketta, for live music without a ticket

For something free and low-commitment, Miami Marketta is a street-food night market a short drive south along the highway, open Wednesday to Saturday from 5pm. Entry is free, no bookings needed, and the Cargo Stage runs live music alongside the food stalls every night it’s open. It suits a family dinner as easily as a casual night out, no ticket to plan around.

GCCEC, for the big-ticket shows

When a touring act outgrows a theatre, it usually lands at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Broadbeach. GCCEC hosts large-scale concerts alongside exhibitions and trade shows, and it’s the venue to check when a bigger production is on the Gold Coast leg of a tour.

Den Devine, for a nightly gig in Broadbeach

Den Devine, a live-music restaurant and music hall on Victoria Avenue in Broadbeach, runs live music every night, with a Tuesday open mic for anyone who fancies a listen to local talent rather than a headline act. It’s a sit-down, dinner-and-a-show option, and it’s been recognised within the Gold Coast’s live-music scene since opening. No booking gymnastics required, just a table and a night that’s on regardless of what’s touring.

Getting there from Viscount

The tram is the easy option for the northern pair. Florida Gardens station is 500 m from the door, about 6 minutes on foot, and it’s the same line that runs to The Star and HOTA. Skip the tram for Broadbeach: the Oceanway runs straight there from First Avenue, roughly 15 minutes at an easy pace, and that’s where GCCEC and Den Devine sit. Miami Marketta is a short drive further south again.

Five venues, at a glance

  • The Star Gold Coast – casino resort with Jupiters Theatre, Broadbeach Island; tram from Florida Gardens.
  • HOTA, Home of the Arts – arts precinct: theatre, gallery, cinema, outdoor stage; Surfers Paradise, tram from Florida Gardens.
  • Miami Marketta – free street-food night market with live music, Miami; short drive south.
  • GCCEC – convention and exhibition centre for big-ticket concerts, Broadbeach; Oceanway walk south.
  • Den Devine – live-music restaurant and music hall, nightly gigs, Broadbeach; Oceanway walk south.

None of these venues needs an event calendar to be worth knowing. They’re fixtures, and a Viscount stay puts every one of them within a tram ride or a beachfront walk. For what else is running while you’re here, the Gold Coast events guide covers the seasonal festivals, and the Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise restaurants guide is the natural pairing for a dinner-and-a-show night.
